“Looking Back to Unlock a Future”
A lifelong love of history led Janis Robinson Daly (NHS ’80) to a second chapter of curiosity, research, and writing historical fiction. In this engaging talk, Daly explores how she chooses which stories to tell, shares the details that bring the past to life, and balances historical fact with the imagination required to create compelling and award-winning fiction.
Splitting her time between Cape Cod, NH, NJ, and snowbird destinations, a tablet becomes Janis Robinson Daly’s library and desk, packed for reading and writing, wherever she might land. Inspired by a discovery made through genealogy research, Daly began a second chapter in life as a historical fiction author. Daly graduated from Needham High School in 1980 and holds a B.A. in Psychology from Wheaton College MA, at the time, a women’s college. At Wheaton, she developed a heightened awareness of female-centric issues. In addition to publishing three award-winning novels to date, her annual literary citizenship program, #31titleswomeninhistory, has gained recognition as an innovative way to celebrate Women’s History Month in March.
