BIRDS, Timothy Otis Fuller

Timothy Otis Fuller (1845-1916) was a self-taught naturalist and artist. The Needham Historical Society owns four of Fuller's ornithology field journals, in which he recorded his observations on the local birds. The journals were illustrated by Fuller with finely-detailed watercolor paintings.

In the 1880s and 90s, Needham was home to several photography studios. As a result, the photographic record of Victorian Needham is especially rich.

The Needham Historical Society obtained permission from Andrew Wyeth to reprint his watercolor sketch , “Pansies.” The sketch was a study for a painting called “Weatherside,” a part of his series Christina’s World.
